Kiefer Village Jewels’ is unveiling “BE GREEN BE GLAMOROUS” to build public awareness of the benefits created by recycling unwanted gold, silver, and platinum. Kiefer’s has been turning the public’s old scrap into green for over 2 years, mostly to those that have some need for the money. The purpose of this new approach is to get the message out that there is another angle to the benefits of putting unused gold into circulation. 90% of the demand for gold is met through recycling, but that still leaves 10% that creates the need for gold-mining. Gold-mining is destructive to the environment through the creation of mine waste and use of toxic chemicals.
With the subtitle of “Your Gold Makes A Difference,” the campaign explains that “by recycling one gold wedding band we can avoid generating 20 tons of mine waste.” The goal is to go beyond those that have recycled their gold for the GREEN cash. It speaks to those that don’t necessarily need the money, but are environmentally conscious. Another aspect to the GREEN philosophy is providing customers with jewelry made from recycled metals. This Kiefer message is being carried out in various ways from flyers to FaceBook, but one interesting twist is the snazzy grocery recycle bag. It’s a black bag with a green floral design, featuring the Kiefer Recycle-Version of their logo which is a crossbreed between the conventional Kiefer Knot Trademark and the traditional recycling logo. The Kiefer bag carries a tag that it is made from recycled material. These bags are available at either of the Kiefer Stores, Dade City and Land o’ Lakes, and also at their gold-buying cart that is just outside of Forever XXI in The Shoppes at Wiregrass. To get one, just visit them with $500 worth of gold and you can be sporting your own “BE GREEN BE GLAMOROUS” bag in the grocery line. Kiefer Village Jewels has been giving back to the community though support of charities, local organizations, and other needs, since 1957. Kiefer’s points out that recycling your gold doesn’t just save the environment, it also helps stimulate the economy.
