Sadly summer is coming to an end and the days are getting shorter as the kids go back to school. It’s time to shake out the sand and hang up the towels as we get back into our normal routines again. Summer Remodel
If you have driven past our Lutz location in the past few days, you may have seen a shocking change to the outside of our building. We have temporarily removed the sign on the front of our building and no we are not going out of business. Quite the opposite actually. We are updating the signage to the front of our building to new LED energy efficient lighting in line with our Kiefer Cares initiative to go green. You may have noticed that the sign used to say “Kiefer Village Jewels” which actually was the original company name that dates back to 1957. We started feeling like this was a mouthful and we wanted to modernize and shorten the name so we decided to drop the word “Village” to make our name “Kiefer Jewelers”. We had already updated little things like our business cards, e-mail addresses and marketing materials and our building signage was one of the last remnants of the old company name. We are also having our building re-painted to get a fresh coat of paint while the sign is off our building. Follow us on social media to see the final result.
Jewelry Buying Event August 16-18
It seems like the world was finally back to normal this summer and we hope you enjoyed lots of travel, shopping, and exploring. Jewelry Appraisal Days
Lutz: Wednesday August 10th + Thursday August 11th
Dade City: Saturday August 13th
The kids are back to school which gives you some extra time around the house to get things back in order. This is a great time to make sure all of your documents are in line as well. We highly recommend updating your jewelry appraisal documents every 5-7 years, especially when gold and diamond prices are this high! The reason for this is if you were to lose your jewelry right now, it would cost more than your current appraisal value to replace that item meaning you would have to pay the difference out of pocket. There’s a good chance that you don’t have the proper coverage level on your jewelry to accommodate today’s retail prices. Jewelry appraisals can also come in handy for estate planning as well. Get Connected at Kiefers
If you've been on social media lately, you have probably seen the new trend that some are calling "forever bracelets" or "eternity bracelets". And we are excited to now offer this service to our customers! This entails taking a bracelet or anklet of your choice and having it permanently welded onto your body with no clasp. This is such a fun activity to do with your best friend, spouse or family member to represent your eternal bond. The bracelet will have a continuous design around your entire wrist and you won't have to fumble with taking it on and off in the mornings anymore. It just takes a second to do the welding and no it does not hurt! Appointments are not required for this service but our recommended so that we can ensure that we have an associate available to zap you right away! Our Estate jewelry collection has grown to have quite a cult following and we know you are dying to see what’s new in our Estate Collection. Most of our items are actually sold to us from other local customers that no longer have a need for that piece of jewelry. We then refurbish the item and sell it at 50% of the original retail price so that it can find a new home. You never know what treasures you may find in our Estate Collection and it is always changing. If you see something you love, we highly recommend snagging it while you can as things don’t last long and can’t just be re-ordered like other items in our store. Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO) Convention
Our owners recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to the Independent Jewelers Organization jewelry convention. Pictured above is our marketing director, Alex Hevia Schlindwein, with jewelry designer Tracy Arrington. We got to be one of the first to see the new collection from Tracy Arrington that are all hand-made in her studio right outside of Orlando, FL. This convention features hundreds of jewelry designers and allows us to source new pieces for our store. We hand select every piece of jewelry that is carried in our stores based on beauty and value and we never sell something that we wouldn’t personally wear or give to our loved ones. By attending this buying shows, we join together with other independently owned jewelry stores across the country to combine our buying power so that we can give you the best price and stay competitive with the large chain stores. We also get to learn about the hottest trends and latest technology available to the industry so that we are always ahead of the curve. We know our customers come to us to find the latest trends as jewelry and fashion advisors. Lights, Camera, Action
If you can’t tell by now, July was a busy month for us! We also recently hosted a commercial shoot day in our Lutz store where we recorded all new video commercials for the upcoming events of the year. This was quite a production with costume changes, hair and make-up and we even filmed drone shoots of both of our stores. These commercials will be played on You-Tube and on your streaming devices like Roku and Hulu so please let us know if you happen to see our ad. Follow along on social media to see the final results!
August Birthstone: Peridot
Peridot is the yellowish green to greenish yellow gem variety of the mineral olivine. Throughout history, peridot has often been confused with other gems such as topaz and emerald. The Red Sea island of Topazios, a purported source of the name “topaz,” actually produced peridot. The Shrine of the Three Holy Kings in Germany’s Cologne Cathedral is decorated with 200 carats of gems that were believed to be emeralds but are, in fact, the August birthstone peridot. Some historians even speculate that Cleopatra’s famous emerald collection may have been comprised of peridot.
The word “peridot” comes from the Arabic faridat, meaning gem. This August birthstone was valued in many ancient and medieval cultures. It appeared in priests’ jewelry as early as the second century BCE and later in the chalices and churches of medieval Europe. The peridot birthstone has also been used for centuries as a protective talisman, shielding the owner from evil spirits and “terrors of the night.”
Peridot is the gem given to celebrate a 16th wedding anniversary.
