Summer is finally here and things have never been hotter here at Kiefers. June babies have not one, not two, but three amazing birthstones to choose from and we have some facts you probably haven't heard about these gemstones. We also have one of our most exciting events of the year coming up just around the corner! In addition, we received a fun new piece of equipment that will allow us to officially start offering a hot new trend that you may have seen on social media. Plus we have some new faces to introduce you to here at Kiefers as our team has been growing. We hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter and all the exciting new things that are happening at Kiefers.
65th anniversary logo
We have always been proud to sport the “Since 1957” tagline here at Kiefers which means that 2022 marks our 65th anniversary of incorporation! In case you didn’t know, the Kiefer family are no longer in charge but we are still family owned. In 1997, David and Wendy Hevia purchased the company from the Kiefer family and continue to operate the business today with their daughter Alex Hevia Schlindwein. Flash back to 1997, David and Wendy had worked for several elite jewelry companies throughout their careers but always dreamed of one day owning their own jewelry store. They spent their evenings planning on the kitchen table how they would do things differently. And then one day, they heard the news that the Kiefer family was looking to retire and sell their store in downtown Dade City. At this time, the Hevias did not have the finances to get approved for a bank loan to purchase the business but the Kiefers believed in the Hevias so much so that they completed the purchase on a handshake and allowed them to self-finance the buyout. This dream could not have been possible without the faith of the Kiefer family, which is why we continue to honor their name to this day. Coincidentally, 2022 also marks the 25th year of the Hevia family taking over the business. We have a lot to be thankful for which is why we rolled out this new version of our logo to commemorate the 65th year. Make sure to follow us on social media for more behind the scenes of the early days of Kiefer Jewelers.

Get Connected at Kiefers
If you are on social media then you have probably seen this hot new trend that some are calling forever or eternity bracelets. This is where a bracelet is permanently welded onto the wearer with no clasp. The result is a continuous chain that stays on forever, or atleast until you decide that it's time to remove it. This has been all the rage lately so of course we decided to be the first to bring this hot new trend to the Pasco County area. We ordered a special piece of equipment that allows us to safely and easily laser weld a piece of jewelry onto you. Don’t worry we already tested it out on ourselves and it doesn’t hurt at all! We can also do this for anklets and necklaces as well. Here are some FAQs about our connected jewelry!
So how does it work?
You can either bring in your own chain (BYOC as we like to call it) or we have a range of chains sold by the inch that you can choose from. Then we weld the bracelet to your wrist and you are on your way! Since the chain is sold by the inch, we can make a custom fit bracelet for your wrist so this is great for anyone that doesn’t have a standard size wrist. This is so much fun to do with a best friend, family member or significant other to signify your bond.
What do you do when you want to take it off?
The bracelets can easily be removed at any time by coming back to us or you can cut the chain with a basic pair of scissors, preferably at the spot where it was welded.
How much does it cost?
The chains start at $20/inch for 14K gold and goes up depending on how intricate or thick the chain is and the welding is $65 if we need to add a small jump ring or $50 without the jump ring. If you bring your own chain, then it would just be the welding charge. Please note that some chains may not work with our laser welder so we would need to see the chain before attempting this process.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Since this is a new service for us, we do require appointments ahead of time so that we can ensure that one of our technicians are available when you arrive. Click here to make an appointment.
June Birthstones
If you are lucky enough to be born in June, then you have 3 amazing birthstones to choose from; Pearl, Alexandrite and Moonstone. Here are some fun facts that you probably didn’t know about these unique gemstones.
Pearl
Pearl is the only organic gemstone as it is formed by a living organism. Pearls are formed when a grain of sand is trapped inside of a mollusk’s shell. The grain of sand actually causes pain to the mollusk so the mollusk releases the inside layer of its shell (nacre) to ease the pain. The nacre slowly coats the grain of sand to form the pearl. It’s actually a meaningful process that can be related to the ups and downs of life, signifying that there's beauty in healing. Pearl is also the gemstone for the third wedding anniversary. Here are some of our best selling pearl pieces:
Pearl Gift Set $330 or $30/month
Sterling Silver Pearl Earrings $119
Sterling Silver Pearl Ring $129
Alexandrite
Alexandrite is one of the most mystical gems as it displays a natural color change effect. It is called “Emerald by day, Ruby by night” as it will show a rich greenish blue color in daylight and a deep reddish purple in evening light. It was first discovered in the Ural mountains of Russia and was named after Czar Alexander II. Alexandrite is extremely rare and in some cases can cost more than diamond. Lab-grown Alexandrite is a great option for anyone that likes the look of Alexandrite and doesn’t want to invest into natural Alexandrite pricing. Alexandrite is also the gemstone for the 55th wedding anniversary. Click here to shop all Alexandrite jewelry.
Alexandrite and Diamond Ring $4,400
Moonstone
One of the less common birthstones for June is moonstone. Moonstone displays a phenomenon called adularescence which is what gives it that glowy look which reminds most of the glow of the moonlight on a dark night. Some cultures believe that this gemstone captures moonbeams inside of it. Moonstone can also be an option for the third wedding anniversary gemstone. Click here to shop all moonstone jewelry.
14K Moonstone and Alexandrite Ring $3,300
Sterling Silver Moonstone Bracelet by John Hardy $750 or $68/month
Gold Plated Moonstone Necklace $255 or $24/month
June Appraisal Dates
Lutz: Wednesday June 8th
Dade City: Saturday June 11th
The kids are at summer camp which gives you some extra time around the house to get things in order before back to school season is here. This is a great time to make sure all of your documents are in line as well. We highly recommend updating your jewelry appraisal documents every 5-7 years, especially when gold and diamond prices are this high! The reason for this is that if you were to lose your jewelry right now, it would cost more than normal to replace the item. There’s a good chance that you don’t have the proper coverage level on your jewelry to accommodate today’s retail prices. We still have some spots available for our appraisal day so click here for more information and to schedule an appointment.
