We want you to be informed of some basic procedures to protect and enhance your fine jewelry. With just a few simple steps, your jewelry will sparkle the way it did when it first caught your eye!
Jewelry Cleaning
At Kiefer Jewelers, we offer complimentary jewelry cleaning services while you wait. If you cannot make it into our jewelry store, or if you want to sparkle up your jewelry on your own, here are some of our jewelry cleaning tips for at home:
1. Gently wash your precious-metal and gemstone pieces weekly with a soft-bristle toothbrush and our commercial jewelry cleaner.
2. Be sure to cover the drain in your sink so that your jewelry doesn't accidentally fall down the drain. Trust us…that is not a fun rescue mission!
3. After a gentle scrubbing, simply rinse and pat dry. We also sell affordable home-use ultrasonic cleaning machines that will make your fine jewelry pieces look brand new!
4. Sterling silver and lower-karat gold tend to tarnish over time due to the alloy mixture in the metal. Frequent rubbing with a polishing cloth will help to prevent this. Cleaning cloths are offered free of charge at our locations. Just ask for one at your next visit!
Jewelry Inspection
It is imperative to have your jewelry cleaned and inspected by a jewelry professional at least twice a year. Using magnification and a trained eye, we will examine the gemstones' security and the settings that holds them. We will also provide an estimate for any jewelry repair work that is recommended. Also, we can deep clean your fine jewelry with professional ultrasonic and steam machines. This service is always free, and we are happy to provide it to you.
A Few Helpful Jewelry Hints
There are times when it is advisable NOT to wear your fine jewelry. It is a good idea to remove your jewelry during these scenarios and store it safely while engaged in these activities.
Here are some examples of when you should not wear your fine jewelry:
- Prolonged contact with equipment at the gym can damage the softer metals used in fine jewelry.
-Digging in the garden or doing heavy household chores can result in damage to settings and loss of gemstones.
-Chlorine in swimming pools and other harsh chemicals can cause irreversible damage to precious metals and some gemstones.
